I have been reading Seth Godin's Blog every morning. It is my new way to wake up. It never miss, there always seems to be some part of his daily blog that is relevant to my business every day.
I had to question myself this morning one of his questions was a real eye opener to me and my belief as the value and the purpose of why I have chosen or most likely photography has chosen me.
Seth ask: "Choose: teach and lead and challenge your customers, or do what they ask..."
It is a constant fine line that I strive to keep clear and one that I believe so much. I am passionate beyond reason, I belief without a doubt that photography (good...no great photography), is one of the most valuable and precious service one can receive, it will outlast the subject but will live on for generations to follow. How powerful to look at your grandmother's wedding image, Your mother's photograph while she was expecting you and to know that my daughter will be able to find comfort and security in looking back at those same images, this is her tangible history, our trace.
So do I want to offer to an average service without challenging my client for what they truly should expect or do I want to keep investing time and emotion to find out precisely how I can make sure that the experience I will offer them will redefine what they should expect from a photographer and ensure that our experience together turns into a page of their history. That's how important I believe it should be.
